How much does it cost to sell on eBay?

As a UK-based eBay trainer, it’s a question I get asked a lot, so I have put together this blog to outline the fees involved when it comes to selling on eBay.

Now I just want to state that eBay is no longer just a place to sell second-hand items, eBay is now a place for Manufacturers, Distributors and Retailers to sell their new products directly to eBay customers.

So much does it cost to sell on eBay?

Private Seller Fees

It’s free to list for private sellers on eBay. Every month you can create up to 1,000 listings for free and eBay take a ‘final value fee’ when the item is sold. The final value fee is 10% of the final transaction value, including postage. There are also optional listing upgrade fees which you have to take into account if you add things such as a second category to your listing or a ‘Buy It Now’ price.

You may have seen eBay shops before, which look a little bit like a website within eBay and you can showcase your products and add the products to different categories. An eBay shop costs £19.99 and you’ll receive an extra 100 free listings a month.

Business Seller Fees

The amount you’re charged per listing depends on the type of eBay Shop subscription you go for. If you don’t have a shop then you ‘pay as you sell’.
If you decide to open up an eBay Shop to showcase your products you’ll choose a Shop package. You will need to look through the packages carefully to decide which package is right for you and your Business depending on the amount of products you sell etc.

A Basic Shop costs £25, a Featured Shop (more free listings, free international shipping etc) costs £69 and an Anchor Shop (unlimited fixed price listings and more benefits) costs £399.
As a Business Seller there are optional listing upgrades such as adding a subtitle etc. which again you need to take into account.
You can always upgrade or downgrade your Shop Subscription from the Subscriptions page, click on ‘Change level’ to upgrade your eBay Store.

I hope this blog post has been useful and has given you a better idea of the fees involved when it comes to selling your products on eBay either as a Private Seller or Business.
