This blog will give you a few tips on how you can create Marketing Video content for your business. I’m not talking about super stylish, slick website videos… I’m talking about useful information you would like to get out there to your customers and potential customers across social platforms. Picture yourself scrolling down Facebook or LinkedIn, you see images and yes, images do tell a story but then you see a video that automatically plays-which is more powerful? A video wins every time for me!

1. Invest in some lighting
When producing videos for your business whether the shot is of you or your products I would certainly recommend investing in some lighting. This doesn’t have to be big, expensive equipment but just some LED lighting that can be used to make the footage look professional. There are LED camera lights available on Amazon for around £25 and some can even screw in to the top of your camera. Always position the light slightly higher than the camera and shine directly on the individual, keep central to reduce shadow.

2. Your Phone is good enough
Many of the people who attend our Video Marketing course are very concerned about the type of camera needed, how many mega pixels, how much will it cost etc. The truth is that when creating video content for your business as long as your phone is recording at 1920 x 720 then it’s good enough to share across social platforms.

3. Always use an external Mic
I can’t stress enough the importance of good quality audio. There is nothing more frustrating than seeing a video, clicking on it and not being able to hear what’s being said. You’ve done a great job in getting me to click on your video but if the audio is poor the bounce rate will be big! Yes, your iphone is good enough to create videos for web but is the sound good enough? Probably not is the answer.. If you are filming an individual for a small everyday production I’d recommend purchasing a lapel mic which can plug into your camera or smart phone and then clip onto the shirt of the person you are recording. Both available on Amazon.

4. Some kind of editing software is needed
If you are new to video editing I wouldn’t recommend purchasing some high quality video editing software. It can be very expensive and if you don’t know what you’re doing then you are missing out on the huge benefits it might offer. Windows Movie Maker is fine for doing the very basics and to get you started. There are also a number of apps out there now that can help you with trimming, adding titles, sound tracks etc. and then you can just upload the videos straight to your phone.

5. Great Content
There’s no point in investing time in video marketing if the content is poor. Give away useful information to your customers,,, ‘How To’ videos are a great place to start. Don’t always sell to your customers but including a call to action in your videos can be a good idea.
